Calling all 1776 families! (Program Updates)

Happy weekend, Pack 1776 families! We hope all of the scouts are having a great start to the school year, although we know it looks a bit different. Parents and guardians, please check your email. Our cubmaster has sent out an update with guidelines and program ideas for the 2020-2021 scouting year. Included in the email is a 1-2minute survey that we are asking all parents/guardians to fill out in order to help us plan for our program. The survey results and guidelines will be discussed at a zoom parent meeting on Monday Sept 21st, at 7pm. The zoom link and login information will be sent via email that morning.

If you did not receive this email, check spam. If it is still not there, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email, or on Facebook messenger and we will make sure you get it. Any questions you may have can be filled out on the survey and addressed during the parent meeting. We look forward to seeing familiar faces on zoom and hopefully finding our way back to the scouting trail, safely, soon.

Yours In Scouting,

The leaders of Pack 1776

Virtual Camporee

Calling all scouts! Calling all scouts! It’s time to go camping! But wait, in social distancing, how do we do that? Well I have the answer for you! Cradle of Liberty Council is hosting a Virtual Camporee the weekend of May 15th-16th. Join us in camping in your backyard, or in your living room, just keep the smelly socks upstairs!

There will be a multitude of activities for cub scouts, older scouts, as well as adults and leaders. If you have a sibling that’s not a scout, let them join in the fun and try to recruit them. Here’s a little info on how this will work.

  • Friday Night at 7pm there will be an opening campfire hosted by the COL Venturing Officer’s Association (you may see some familiar faces performing!)
  • You can view the campfire as well as the opening colors (flag ceremony) at 8:30am, as a livestream on the council’s facebook.
  • Go to the Camporee website to see the day’s schedule
  • Click on the classes you wish to be apart of, register (for free!) in order to get sent the link for the zoom rooms!
  • During second period, at 10am, join myself, Ms. Avery, in a cub scout cooking class! I would love to see my 1776 scouts there, I miss you guys!
  • A parent guardian can send pictures to the Cub Scout Facebook page, or email the leaders, with permission to share on our Facebook. We want to showcase the scouts participating!
  • Closing scout’s own will be at 4pm, livestreamed on Facebook.
  • You do not need a Facebook account to view the live, just click the link above. You do not need a zoom account to participate, just click the link you get after registering.

I hope to see a bunch of the 1776 scouts at the camporee, if you have any questions, you can reach me at asytsma@cubscoutpack1776.org.

Our Wolves are almost Bears!!

we also have participated in a flag folding ceremony via video instruction and discussion, snd watched a video and learned about campfire safety and held a discussion about a situation/change in our community.  We chose the virus and schooling from home and the rules we must follow.  There is no doubt the Wolves get it and are educated on the situation and are doing what they are supposed to.  It got them thinking about ways to get through this and that’s a win!

Over the next 2 weeks we will be wrapping up our program with more instruction to conclude their adventures for the year.  We will keep in touch and plan for summer as best we can and we CANNOT WAIT to see all of  your smiling faces again!

Sittin’ Around the Virtual Campfire…

Hello 1776 Cub Scouts! Tonight at 7pm, join us at the Cradle of Liberty Virtual Campfire. Scouts and Scouters from across the council will be livestreaming a campfire performance for all to enjoy. Our very own Bear leader, Miss Avery will be singing! So grab your snacks, your camp chair, and your scout spirit and sing along with us.

It will be livestreamed on the council Facebook page. Here’s the link to the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/146757846735326/

Scouting for the rest of the year

Our lives have been completely turned upside down this past month and we just want you to know “we are all in this together” isn’t just a saying for us. We are a pack. We are a family.  We will support one another in good times and in bad times. Along with schooling and everything else, our scouting year has been disrupted and we have no real timeline for when activities and meetings will resume, but this doesn’t mean scouting has to cease. In fact, our leaders recently met via video chat and we have some really great and innovative ways to continue our program remotely, which we will be sharing after the holiday. In the meantime, enjoy your Easter and Passover with your families. Please count your blessings during these hard and scary times and know we are always here – isolation is hard. Home schooling is hard. And life itself is hard enough even without a pandemic- if you need anything, could use some advice or help with school or just need to hear a friendly voice- we are all just an email or phone call away! We miss you and wish you continued good health!

HAPPY EASTER

From all of us at Cub Scout Pack 1776 to you- Have a happy, safe, healthy and blessed Easter holiday!

HANG IN THERE

The Cub Scout SaluteJust checking in with our scout families!  We know this virus is scary and has upended our lives on so many levels, so we at 1776 just want to say HANG IN THERE. We are all in this together. Let’s just do our part and stay isolated unless your job requires you out and about. Practice good hand washing and proper coughing and sneezing measures, all around good hygiene. We may as well use this as a good learning opportunity for ourselves and our children.

Try to find the silver linings – on one hand 24/7 with the kids can be trying for sure, but it’s also a blessing in disguise.  You can use this time to help your child reach rank advancement by following the den requirements on Scoutbook.com, via the handbook and by referencing the materials and activity suggestions/resources sent by your den leaders. It’s all fun stuff that can be done indoors and outdoors that teaches as well as combats boredom in so many fun ways – which means less cabin fever For them and less chance of you going stir crazy! Regularly engaging  in family activities together will only bring you together and make you stronger and make this whole situation more bearable.

Essentially, this is what cubscouts is all about- when we come together in dens and as a pack, or virtually with our families, we are forming a bond and learning and working as a team, just as the program intended.   You are our scout family!

We may be unable to physically see you right now, but you are never far from our thoughts and we miss you. Please check in periodically to let us know how you are – we are only an email away.   Stay safe, stay healthy, don’t be afraid to answer your children’s questions truthfully- which can be done without scaring them further-  and please reach out if you need help:  Our Pack Committee has expertise with shelter in place and are very knowledgeable on how to prepare for various situations. This, of course, is so very new to all of us, but if we are able to help in any way, we will.

Like you, we have no idea when we will return to our meeting place, but we hope it is soon.  We will check in every week and forward any new scout return information that comes our way.

in the meantime, stay safe!  Don’t take any unnecessary risks! Focus on the positives like reconnecting and STAY HOME unless it’s to enjoy your back yard or to commune with nature at a park or woods ** keeping the required 6’ distance from others.

We miss all of you very much, so please pass on a virtual hug from all of the leaders and den chiefs!

Monday Night Adventure

Baloo HikingAs our mighty cubs are finishing up their schooling for the day and fueling for our meeting tonight, I want to remind den parents about tonight’s meeting. Weather permitting, the Tigers, Wolves and Bears are going on a one-mile hike around the neighborhood tonight and looking to find evidence of wildlife in nature.

All scouts should have sturdy footwear, a water bottle, flashlight, and appropriate outerwear for the weather. The predicted temperature for 7:00pm is 64 degrees F. Scouts are encouraged to bring a backpack with their six essentials to prepare for longer hikes and adventures if they desire.
