Happy weekend, Pack 1776 families! We hope all of the scouts are having a great start to the school year, although we know it looks a bit different. Parents and guardians, please check your email. Our cubmaster has sent out an update with guidelines and program ideas for the 2020-2021 scouting year. Included in the email is a 1-2minute survey that we are asking all parents/guardians to fill out in order to help us plan for our program. The survey results and guidelines will be discussed at a zoom parent meeting on Monday Sept 21st, at 7pm. The zoom link and login information will be sent via email that morning.
If you did not receive this email, check spam. If it is still not there, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email, or on Facebook messenger and we will make sure you get it. Any questions you may have can be filled out on the survey and addressed during the parent meeting. We look forward to seeing familiar faces on zoom and hopefully finding our way back to the scouting trail, safely, soon.

The leaders of Pack 1776
As our mighty cubs are finishing up their schooling for the day and fueling for our meeting tonight, I want to remind den parents about tonight’s meeting. Weather permitting, the Tigers, Wolves and Bears are going on a one-mile hike around the neighborhood tonight and looking to find evidence of wildlife in nature.
The Bears took on the adventure of Furs, Feathers and Ferns Monday night. The scouts were able to plant their own herbs or vegetables, their choice of the seeds available. They should keep the plant in sunlight, and the soil moist. Most of the seeds will begin to form seedlings in 5-12 days, depending on what they chose. When the plant grows even more, they can transfer the starter pot to a larger planter. The scouts talked about wildlife they’ve seen before, as well as composting. We discussed some of the benefits of composting and the scouts can look in their Bear handbook for more information, and how to start it at home, if they desire.
Monday the Bears worked on the Paws for Action Adventure. To start off, they challenged themselves by naming as many of the 50 states that they could. Through this adventure, they learned what each aspect of the American flag stands for, and practiced drawing one of their own. The scouts were able to learn and practice how to properly fold the US flag, and learned how to display it. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance, going into the meaning of each line. We named some famous Americans, past and present and talked about why some of them are famous.
On Monday the Bears started working on the Grin and Bear It Adventure. We covered what the adventure entailed and how we will complete while doing some painting and telling some great jokes. We are keeping the details a “secret” until we are completed and ready to share with everyone.
Tonight the bear den completed the Super Science Adventure in full (requirements 1 through 5). While the Bear Scout may have gotten a little messy they gained a lot of knowledge. With science being an everyday wonder that Scouts can learn more about by simply using ordinary household supplies, their actions created amazing reactions in fun investigations while exploring static electricity, oil and water, sinking versus floating, and color morphing and layering.
We had a wonderful (approx) 5 mile hike at Valley Forge last month. The weather was perfect and the company even better. It was a nice turnout for scout attendance and even though the paths we took did not lead us to he dinosaur fossils, there’s always next time! Way to go Cubs Dennis, Evan and Megan! You are 1/3 of the way toward your summer participation badge! Can’t wait to see who joins us in August!!
