This week the wolves finished the Digging in the Past adventure.  We also covered the difference between “all the time” snacks and “sometimes” snacks as well as the needs of a hike.

Next week we will review bad weather camping scenarios.

On Monday the wolves worked on the Germs Alive elective adventure. They discussed what germs are and started a science experiment with bread to see if washing their hands with soap made a difference and used miniature pompoms to show how easily germs spread.

On Monday night, the tracking for the exercise activities is due. Please remind your scouts to bring their activity records with them.  We hope to see everyone at the Klondike Derby this weekend.

This week the Bears and the Wolves worked together. Those who went to the Revolutionary Germantown festival shared their experience with the rest of the dens and talked about famous people and places along with their significance in history to complete Hometown Heroes requirement 1. The conversation then turned to a conversation about freedom and the significance of the American flag, setting the tone for the Council Fire Adventure in the near future.

The wolves then moved on to Howling at the Moon as planned and completed requirement 1, showing that they can communicate in multiple ways.  They completed this task by learning about and practicing communicating with each other using morse code, nautical flags, and semaphore flags.

Next week the Wolves will continue with Howling at the Moon and likely move to Council Fire after that.

On Monday, the wolves completed the Cubs Who Care elective adventure which was started at the Open House on 9/25/17. They completed requirements 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7, completing more than the four required to complete the adventure.

This adventure is intended to help Wolf Cub Scouts learn about physical disabilities, which are more easily and readily understood at their age than are learning disabilities and mental impairments. They examined how sports such as ice hockey, soccer, and basketball have been adapted for blindness and paraplegics; they learned about invisible disabilities such as mental health issues or those caused by brain injury; they drew a picture with and without a blindfold and discussed how they had to adapt with with techniques such as finger placement and not removing the crayon. Lastly they talked about famous people with disabilities such as Albert Einstein, Stevie Wonder, and Cher.

Next Week

Next week the wolves will be working on either Howling at the Moon requirements 1-3 though if the weather is nice they may also do Air of the Wolf requirements 2a & 2d.

On Dec 5, 2016 the wolves completed the Running with the Pack Adventure which aims to promote physical fitness and good health through games and other fun activities.

To close off the adventure we completed the adventure with the following requirements:

• Requirement 1: Play catch: due to space limitations, we covered this by playing a game of hot potato.
• Requirement 4: Playing a sport or game and showing ‘good sportsmanship’. We played a few games including amusing attempts at tug of war!
• Requirement 6: Demonstrate a balanced diet by helping plan a healthy meal, using Thanksgiving dinner as a model, and making a list of foods used to prepare the meal.

Homework: Don’t forget to practice flexibility and balance by practicing front rolls, back rolls, and trying frog stands at home.

Please note that next week is our Pack Meeting. The wolves will be performing a skit, which is the final requirement for the Howling at the Moon adventure. The updated requirement 4 is to perform their role for a den meeting or pack program. Please do everything possible to ensure their participation.

Last night the wolves started to wrap up the requirements for the Germs Alive adventure, completing the ‘in-den’ portion of requirements 4, 5, & 6.  There are family activities, activities to be done at home, in order to complete these requirements.

For requirement four the scouts played with an edible dough as an example of mucus and to show how mucus in our nose filters things we breath in. For requirement 5, the scouts took home a piece of damp bread in a baggie that they will track during the week as it grows mold. The results will be discussed next week. Lastly for requirement 6 the scouts were given charts to track their chores for the week.

In addition to the above the Wolves completed Howling at the Moon requirement 2: Create an original skit and started Council Fire requirement 2: With your Den make a duty chart to be performed for 1 month.

Homework

• Track the bread and watch mold grow; tracking sheets were provided for the scouts to use.
• Finish filling in the chore charts with your family and return signed for a gold star.
