Pinewood Derby

The pinewood derby is this Monday, April 2nd.  The derby will begin at 6:00 pm EDT, with the first heat beginning promptly at 6:15 pm EDT.  We have 5 cars that were not registered for the race during weigh in and registrations last week.  You will have until 5:30 PM EDT on April 2nd to have your car registered for the race and then registrations will be permanently closed.  Someone will be there by 5:00 PM in order to help you weigh in and register.

ALL VEHICLES MUST BE REGISTERED BY 5:30 PM OR YOUR CAR WILL NOT BE IN THE LINE UP.

We have 21 of 26 cars registered and have only a few hours to conduct our race.  Once the race begins new cars will not be accepted under any circumstances.  The software we use to generate the race schedule uses an algorithm that guarantees each car runs on each track at least once and races against different cars each race.  It is impossible, once the first race begins, to add new vehicles to the lineup without starting all over and invalidating the results of any races that already had taken place.   We do not have the time to start over so we will not be doing so under any circumstance.

We had asked that each family of four chip in a total of $5 to cover the cost of pizza and then contribute something small (snacks, drinks, paper products) based on your den.  13 families have contributed their $5.00 so far.  We will be collecting the outstanding balance from those haven’t paid on Monday at the door.

For those who wish to help set up, I will be opening up the gym around 2:00 PM to set up.

April Camping Trip: Health Forms & More

Two weeks ago we distributed health forms at the parent meeting.  All but one family was in attendance so all but one should have their forms.  We have not yet received any of these forms back.  These forms are mandatory for insurance purposes and are required before participation in pack outings is allowed.  Please have these forms with you on Monday April 2nd, one is attached to this post for your reference in case you lost the original.

In addition we need to turn in a final headcount to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (PA DCNR) as soon as possible since we are having at overnight event in a state park that normally does not permit such.  This is also necessary to put together a proper food list.   Due to our not having a meeting on April 9th for Easter Monday, we will need your final decision on Monday April 2nd.  Once we finalize the headcount we will be unable to add additional people due to state requirements.

The cost of the trip, to cover the cost of food and supplies, is $15 per person over scouting age.  There will NO CHARGE for “pack buddies”, who we will define as siblings under scouting age.  Siblings of scouting age and adults are required to pay.  All monies for the camping trip are due no later than Monday April 16th.

We will be publishing a list of items you should have as well as a rough itinerary in the next week.  Please plan now to have a tent.

Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby is an exciting event for the boys and I am glad we were all able to organize a way to make it all it can be for everyone involved. The workshop seemed to go rather well for our 1st and hopefully a tradition can be formed. The scouts were very excited and we had a lot of positive participation. I am hoping our Derby race will be even better.

In order to ensure that all the boys get to race every track and each other we will be having the Pinewood Derby registration and weigh in On March 26th,2012. This is very important to ensure that the cars are at the proper weight of 5oz and qualify to race.

All those planning on participating in the Pinewood Derby on April 2, 2012  must bring their cars on March 26th in order to be inspected, registered and weighed in. Once registered the cars will be secured at the facility until time of the race.  This is important because on April 2nd we will begin racing at 6:00 PM sharp. There will be no time for late registrations. Anyone that fails to register on March 26th will only be able to spectate.

On Monday April 2nd, we will have our Pinewood Derby.  The first heat (race) will begin at 6:00 PM SHARP!!!  Please be on time.  If anyone would like to volunteer to assist with setting up the gym, please contact us.  We will be opening up the gym approximately between 2:00 and 3:00 to begin setting up.

At the race we will be having:

  • Pizza- Please remember to bring in $5.00  per family on Monday 3/26
  • Baked Ziti
  • Cookies
  • Cupcakes

We will still need the following items:

  • Tigers-  Snacks (potato chips, pretzels, finger food)
  • Wolves and Bears – Drinks  (juice boxes, bottled water, Pouches preferred)
  • Webelos- Paper/Plastic Products ( Napkins,Plastic silverware,plates, table clothes)

There will be a sign up sheet at the meeting on 3/26.         Thank you for all you do.

Mandatory Parent Meeting 3/19/2012

We will be having a MANDATORY parent meeting on Monday March 19th beginning promptly at 7:00pm It  is advisable to try and be there a few minutes as the meeting will be very brief..

Attendance is mandatory in order for your son to participate in the Pinewood Derby the following week and to go camping in April.  The meeting will not be long, so even if your son will not be coming on Monday, one parent should still attend.

Pinewood Derby Workshop

Monday 3/12/2012 we will have a pinewood derby workshop starting at 6:30 PM.  We will go over the basics of how to turn your block of wood into a pinewood derby car as well as provide cutting services for those who need them.

This is a service for parents and son, you must be present with your son to work on his pinewood derby car.  It is also important that you bring your Pinewood Derby Kit, we do not have extras to give away so if you do not have yours any longer, we will be able to sell you one.

We also ask that anyone with coping saws, dremel tools (with cutting attachments) or other smaller woodworking tools to please bring them in and assist with cutting.  It would be a huge help.

Tiger Cubs – 03/05/12

TIger Cub         Monday the boys will be making their picture frames to accomplish elective #4.  Please remember to have them bring a standard size photo (3½x5, 4×6, or 5×7) of a family or special event.  If you do not have physical print or duplicate on hand I can print them for the boys.

Also please make sure the boys bring their Tiger Scout Books so we can record any new activities/accomplishments the boys have made recently.

Thanks,

Chris Campagna

Parent Meeting Tonight

Just a reminder that we will be having a parent meeting tonight and at least 1 representative from each family is required to attend.  The meeting will begin gathering promptly at 6:45pm .

On a side note: If your child is a Bear or Webelos and has an appropriately sized folding knife, he may bring it tonight. However, since he has not earned his whittling chip yet, you will need to hold it for him and give it to one of the leaders to hold until he is ready for it.
