Fort Washington Camping Trip

Cub Scout Pack 1776 is scheduled to camp at Fort Washington State Park this August 9th-11th. The cost for the trip will be $20 per person and includes includes: Saturday Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Campfire Snacks; and Sunday Breakfast. If you plan on attending please email dgriess@cubscoutpack1776.org. I will be available at the church to drop off money on  July 10th and 24th from 7-8pm. I will also be able to collect payments at our fishing trip on July 13th.

Fort Washington State Park is rich in modern recreational facilities and historical significance. The park takes its name from the temporary fort built by George Washington’s troops in the fall of 1777, before heading to Valley Forge. Fort Washington blossoms with flowering dogwood in the spring and the park is popular with hikers and picnickers. The seasonal migration of raptors is enjoyed by many avid birders from the parks observation tower.

Fort Washington has 3.5 miles of trails, fishing, a disc golf course, a softball field and lots of space to play and do activities.  Scouts are welcome to bring bikes, fishing gear, and those scouts who have earned their whittling chip will be allowed, with parental approval, to bring their pocketknives.

Camping supply list

With a camping trip in the near future I thought this might be a good information to put out there.

Basic Supply List:

  1. pocketknife  (Bears & Webelos Scouts Only must have Whittling chip card)
  2. first-aid kit
  3. Bring extra clothing to match the weather. Multiple layers are better than a single massive jacket, because layered clothing is adaptable to a wide range of temperatures.
  4. Rain gear is very important. Being wet from rain may result in hypothermia, a potentially fatal condition.
  5. Flashlight is important for finding your way in the dark.
  6. Trail food is good for maintaining your energy.
  7. Water can prevent dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
  8. Sun protection might include sunblock, sunglasses, lip balm and a wide-brimmed hat.
  9. Map and compass are probably the most important tools you can carry in case you get lost.
  10. Tent and Sleeping Bag

PENNYPACK HIKE Sunday, June 23, 2019

Akela HikingWe are so excited to get summer rolling that we had to add another outing! Whether or not you can make it to Valley Forge on Saturday, we hope to see you at Pennypack Park on Sunday. Come out with Mike and Nora Magras for a local hike through many of the beautiful trails in our own backyard – PENNYPACK PARK. This is a shorter hike so no lunch is necessary, but feel free to bring a snack and plenty of water. Sunscreen, bug spray, hat, and anything else you will find helpful. Of course, you can pack a lunch and stay longer if you like.

We will meet at FRANKFORD and ASHBURNER at 11:00 AM. Please be prompt so everyone can be on their way by 11:15.

We hope to see you this weekend at one or both events! If you can, let us know if you plan to attend, but if you decide last minute, that’s just fine, too!

Here are some essentials you should bring: Lunch and snack and plenty of water. Sunscreen, sunglasses/hat, bug spray. We hope we never need it, but a little first aid kit and rain poncho is always smart, perhaps a walking stick, and some money as there are opportunities for food and gift purchases. \
If you can let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend, great, but please know you are welcome to just show up if you decide that day. Hope to see you there!! Leaders present will be Dan Griess, Regina Giuffre and Kristine Darmohray.

BLue and Gold Thank You

Thank you for coming yesterday to our end of year Blue and Gold. The skits that our scouts presented such as “No stick skillet”, “Bear Attack” and “Man Eating Chicken” along with Mr, Dan’s dad jokes had us laughing. Our scouts enjoyed watching each others’ skits along with having fun with the beach theme. Beach ball volleyball being played to having pictures taken with our picture area were filled with smiles. We heard the stories of favorite activities for the year and also the excitement for our new year to start in September. Our scouts were proud to receive their rank that they worked so hard for. We said “See you later” to our AOLs as they “changed” into Scouts. We wish them lots of fun, luck and adventures as they begin their next part of the journey towards Eagle Scout. Thank you to everyone who helped with set up, cooking, breaking down and helping through the year. Without your support we would not be as successful as we are as a pack! Keep posted for information about summer activities!
