Calling all scouts! Calling all scouts! It’s time to go camping! But wait, in social distancing, how do we do that? Well I have the answer for you! Cradle of Liberty Council is hosting a Virtual Camporee the weekend of May 15th-16th. Join us in camping in your backyard, or in your living room, just keep the smelly socks upstairs!
There will be a multitude of activities for cub scouts, older scouts, as well as adults and leaders. If you have a sibling that’s not a scout, let them join in the fun and try to recruit them. Here’s a little info on how this will work.
- Friday Night at 7pm there will be an opening campfire hosted by the COL Venturing Officer’s Association (you may see some familiar faces performing!)
- You can view the campfire as well as the opening colors (flag ceremony) at 8:30am, as a livestream on the council’s facebook.
- Go to the Camporee website to see the day’s schedule
- Click on the classes you wish to be apart of, register (for free!) in order to get sent the link for the zoom rooms!
- During second period, at 10am, join myself, Ms. Avery, in a cub scout cooking class! I would love to see my 1776 scouts there, I miss you guys!
- A parent guardian can send pictures to the Cub Scout Facebook page, or email the leaders, with permission to share on our Facebook. We want to showcase the scouts participating!
- Closing scout’s own will be at 4pm, livestreamed on Facebook.
- You do not need a Facebook account to view the live, just click the link above. You do not need a zoom account to participate, just click the link you get after registering.
I hope to see a bunch of the 1776 scouts at the camporee, if you have any questions, you can reach me at asytsma@cubscoutpack1776.org.

Our lives have been completely turned upside down this past month and we just want you to know “we are all in this together” isn’t just a saying for us. We are a pack. We are a family. We will support one another in good times and in bad times. Along with schooling and everything else, our scouting year has been disrupted and we have no real timeline for when activities and meetings will resume, but this doesn’t mean scouting has to cease. In fact, our leaders recently met via video chat and we have some really great and innovative ways to continue our program remotely, which we will be sharing after the holiday. In the meantime, enjoy your Easter and Passover with your families. Please count your blessings during these hard and scary times and know we are always here – isolation is hard. Home schooling is hard. And life itself is hard enough even without a pandemic- if you need anything, could use some advice or help with school or just need to hear a friendly voice- we are all just an email or phone call away! We miss you and wish you continued good health!
From all of us at Cub Scout Pack 1776 to you- Have a happy, safe, healthy and blessed Easter holiday!

Just checking in with our scout families! We know this virus is scary and has upended our lives on so many levels, so we at 1776 just want to say HANG IN THERE. We are all in this together. Let’s just do our part and stay isolated unless your job requires you out and about. Practice good hand washing and proper coughing and sneezing measures, all around good hygiene. We may as well use this as a good learning opportunity for ourselves and our children.
Last night our wolves put their creativity and engineering skills to the test. Each scout decided upon a paper airplane design to make and see how well and far it would fly. We conducted our first experiment based on the original design, then made adjustments we felt would make them fly more efficiently and then again. Each change helped them learn and demonstrate aerodynamics and problem solve how to fix what’s not working and how to improve what is- all great skills necessary in every endeavor in life, and a super fun way to learn! Next week we take our flight to a new level and build a paper plane catapult to soar even higher – or so we hope – we will find out!
On Monday night the Cub Scouts participated in a “round-robin” style activity where they covered several topics and were able to learn about several people that made their mark in history including several inventors and what they invented along with getting to make scout-friendly versions of some of these inventions themselves:
