Tiger Elective Achievement: Safe and Smart

Safe and Smart

This week the Tigers completed requirements 3 and 4 of the Safe and Smart Adventure which completes this elective  for the Tigers. We reviewed what we have learned in prior weeks and they showed that they can “Stop, Drop, and Roll.” and demonstrated how to safely roll someone else in a blanket to put out a fire. The Tigers then joined the Lions and Wolfs for some physical fitness fun!

Tiger Den Update.

Tiger Adventure: Tigers In the Wild

This week the Tigers worked with both the Lion and Wolf dens. The Tigers completed Requirement 1 and Requirement 3(b) of Tigers in the Wild Adventure. They discussed the Cub Scout Six Essentials needed for a hike including how to prepare for the rain.

The Tigers also learned the difference about healthy food choices and not so healthy food choices. They made “mud” using pudding and whip cream and created their own creations out of fresh fruit and tooth picks.

As a reminder: This Saturday, March 17, 2018 is The Pinewood Derby Car Workshop from 10am-2pm.

Tiger Den Update 2/26/18

This week all Den’s worked together and planted a variety of plant seeds. The Tigers were asked to draw and share some of the plants, trees, and/or shrubs that they would see on a hike or during a typical walk around neighborhood. They were then given the opportunity to examine plant leaves, roots, and soil with a magnifying glass. While the Tigers planted their tomato and wild flower seeds, they learned about the needs and growth of the plants. This completed requirement #4 of the My Tiger Jungle Adventure.

As a reminder, please have your scouts bring their handbooks to our weekly meetings. The handbook will allow the scouts see what requirements they have already completed and it will also give them the opportunity to be able to choose what they would like to work on in future meetings.

Tiger Update 2/12 & 2/19

Tiger Adventure: Backyard Jungle

On February 12th and February 19th, the Tiger Den worked on a requirement for the My Tiger Jungle Adventure. The Tigers used popsicle sticks to create and build a birdhouse. They brought their houses home with them on Monday night and can hang them as the weather gets nicer.

This coming Monday the Tigers will work on another requirement for the My Tiger Jungle Adventure by planting and learning about the needs and growth of the plant; so plan on them getting a bit dirty.  In the coming weeks, the den will finish this adventure by taking a hike and learning about the sights and sounds of nature around us.

Going forward, please have your Scout bring his/her book to our weekly meetings.

Tiger Update 10/09/2017

Tiger Adventure: Games Tigers PlayThis week the Tigers worked on the Games Tigers Play adventure (page 42 in the handbook) which is designed to will help boys develop appropriate emotional responses, engage in shared decision making in group settings, and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.

They played Synapse, Twister, and the boys created and played their own game called “Attack the Monster”. These games allowed the boys to build their own teams and showed the importance of team work.

The Tigers completed requirements 1 and 3 this week. Next week they will pick a healthy snack and explain what makes it healthy (requirement 2) which, along with their home assignment (see below), will complete the Games Tigers Play Adventure.

At Home (homework)
Each Tiger will need to create a game of his own and play it with his family before the next meeting (requirement 4). He will then discuss and play the game with our den next week.

Important News: Please be aware that the Boy Scouts of America has updated the advancement requirements for Cub Scouts but have not printed new handbooks with the updated requirements. As a result you may notice that some of the requirement numbers we mention are different than what is in the handbook. Below is a link to an addendum that contains the updated requirements to supplement your scout’s handbook We have also updated the requirements on our website

Tiger Elective Adventure: Family Stories

The Tigers worked on the Family Stories Adventure (page 134 in the Tiger Handbook) which was designed to help Tigers learn about their families and their heritage. It is through this adventure that Tigers begin to learn that a scout is courteous as they learn family differences and explore different cultures.

During the den meeting the Tigers made a family tree (req 5), made a family crest (req 2), talked about their names (req 6), and talked about different families (req 1).

During the week the Tigers should be working with their families to learn why they were given their name and where their families originated from.
