Calendar Changes

calendarIn order to improve the performance on our website, we will be migrating over to a new calendar within the next couple of weeks.  The new calendar is more feature rich, more stable, more secure, and more importantly is less resource intensive.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, in case you see things acting a little flaky or coming and going with the Calendar.

The new calendar application which we will be switching to is called Events Calendar Pro.  The fine folks at Modern Tribe, Inc. have graciously donated the pro version of their software to us for free.  Thank you Modern Tribe!

Fall Fest Tomorrow

Fall-Fest-2014-RevisedWe have great numbers for tomorrow fall fest, it will be a great time and we look forward to seeing everyone there.

Be sure that your scout is prepared, dressed in layers, so he can remove outer layers as the day progresses.  A comfortable scout is a happy scout.  The day will start out pretty cool (45°) climbing to 57-58° by lunch and then peak around 2:30 at 63°.

While lunch will be provided, please be sure your scout has a water bottle and a small snack or two.  All of the activity will require ample fuel and water to keep your scout going throughout the day.  Snacks and beverages shouldn’t contain anything too sugary as that can cause your scout to burn out.

You must bring a copy of the Medical Health Form (parts A & B) for each person. This includes all siblings and adults.  Additionally, you will need a signed copy of the Grandview Hospital release form for every person under the age of 18 years old.  THIS IS MANDATORY!  (Attached Below)

We will meet just outside the parking lot. I ask that you be there by 8:00 AM so that we can register at 8:15. I have all tickets and will register us all at once. As per the event page, registration & check in begins at 8:15 AM with the opening ceremony at 8:45 AM. The Fall Fest is located at Camp Hart, part of the Musser Scout Reservation. Use the address 1125 Camp Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 to get directions to our parking lot, which is at the corner of Camp and Miller Roads. Coming from the turnpike, you will come north on Rt 63 to Upper Ridge Road. Turn Right onto Upper Ridge Road, go through the stop sign and past the Camp Delmont entrance for just over a mile. Make a right onto Miller Road, the parking lot is at the bottom of the hill on the left..

There are several routes and the ride is about an hour. The map below is directions from the Church to Camp Hart, please choose the route which works best for you.

Encampment Patch

All Philadelphia Scouts and Scouters are invited to participate in a great program of scout skills (you can see, learn and compete in each skill):  Pioneering, Camping, Cooking, Fire building, Woods Tools, Nature, First Aid

ProjectCrossoverPROJECT CROSSOVER. Project Crossover is an exciting Webelos specific program that will give older Cub Scouts an all day Boy Scout experience! Webelos in this program will form into patrols alongside Scouts from all across the city. Together, Scouts will go through an intensive, one day program of basic Boy Scout skills that will have them working together to learn new skills and compete against other patrols. Name your patrol, make a patrol flag, and learn a patrol yell! They will learn about the importance of the patrol and develop skills that will help them as they transition into a Troop. There are seven program areas that will challenge every Scout’s skills and teamwork ability!

Welcome Tigers!!

TIger CubI want to again welcome our Tiger cubs as well as all our new cubs and returning cubs. I hope everyone had a great summer. The Tiger Cubs had a fantastic first den meeting. We chose rules for our den, and then the whole pack went over their individual den rules to combine them into our pack rules. I look forward to seeing you all next week and working with the Tigers throughout the scouting season.  We’re going to have a fun filled, educational year! See you all next week.  🙂

Welcome to the 2014-2015 Season

The title says it all!  Welcome back to a new scouting season.  In addition to welcoming back our returning scouts we would also like to wish the best to our scouts who crossed over into the Boy Scouts at the end of the previous season.  Your pack wishes you the best of luck and hopes you enjoy your learning experience in the Boy Scouts.

We hope everyone had a great summer and enjoyed the summer activities that we had planned for you.  We would love to get feedback from those who attended on what we did this past summer.  There will be a recap of what we did towards the end.

New Season

RecruiterAs we get back into the swing of things with our weekly meetings starting back up tomorrow Monday September 15th.  This is the time of the year for returning scouts to bring in any friends or family interested in scouting.  If they join and pay their dues the referring scout earns their recruiter badge.

During this time we will have a lot of new scouts showing up with an interest in scouting. We expect that our seasoned scouts will exhibit the core values of scouting and help make the new scouts feel welcome. They should take the time to introduce themselves, introduce new boys to other pack members & leaders, as well as assist them with earning the Bobcat rank. This common courtesy also covers requirements for the various ranks; for example

  • Tigers: Elective 9, Help a new boy get to know other people.
  • Wolves: Elective 22e. Invite a boy to join Cub Scouting or help a new Cub scout through the Bobcat trail.
  • Bears: Achievement 24a, Help a by join Cub Scouting or help a new Cub scout through the Bobcat trail.

Parent Meetings

RememberThis year we will be holding monthly parent meetings on the last Monday of every month.  Our goal is to keep these meetings around 15-20 minutes so on months which we have a Pack meeting the meeting will be held as part of the pack meeting. The format will be to inform you of what is coming up; any issues, concerns or changes going on; what your scouts are working on, and any assistance we may need.  We ask that you be sure at least one parent or family member attends each meeting.

For September there will be two parents meetings: one for returning scout parents, and one for new scout parents. Returning scout parents will meet on Monday Sept 15th.  New scout parents will meet on Monday Sept 29th during the open hours.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night.

Summer Recap

We had great participation this Summer earning Pack 155, once again, has earned the National Summertime Pack Award for running at least 3 activities in each of the Summer months. Two of our dens earned the National Summertime Den Award for over 50% average participation, and finally 11 scouts earned the National Summertime Activity Award for participating in one pack activity per summer month.

June

We started off the summer with our BBQ and end of year awards, then we had a Swim & Belt loop day at the Winchester Swim Club.

July

July is the month of summer camps and half the pack attended summer camp this year where they got incredible head starts towards their rank before the scouting season even started having earned several belt loops, pins, activity badges and completing a variety of requirements & electives.  Half of those attending went to 2 or more camps.  Aside from a month of Camps, we went tubing  down the Delaware as a family outing.

August

In August we went camping at Hibernia State Park.  It was our first time camping there and had great fun.  We had 2 Venturers from the newly formed Venturing Crew 1776 join us.

Once again we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night.
